Hi {{ first_name | friend }},
It's November 4, and I'm writing this after a pretty exhausting day.
I was working the night shift again and left the office around 3 AM.
The only thing I could think about was going home and lying down in my bed.
And that's exactly what I did.
I rested for about an hour, and it felt amazing.
While lying there, I started thinking about how grateful I am to have a home, a comfortable bed, and somewhere to rest after a long night.
Something so simple, yet so important.
A few things we take for granted
Later in the morning, I took my daughters to school.
But I desperately needed to use the toilet. :)
I dropped them off a little earlier than usual and headed straight back home.
And once again, I found myself appreciating something I'd never really thought about much before.
Having a toilet at home. Having clean water, privacy, and everything we need.
I know it sounds a little funny to write about this in a newsletter, but I genuinely felt grateful.
Afterwards, I managed to sleep for another hour or two before going to the dentist.
I'm currently having three teeth with old root canal treatments treated again because they've developed problems.
I've been going to the dentist almost every week or two.
It's not particularly enjoyable, but I'm grateful that I have access to this kind of healthcare.
The technology and techniques I've experienced here in Germany have impressed me. My dentist even uses a microscope during the treatment.
Compared with some of my previous experiences, I really appreciate the care I'm receiving.
Noticing what we already have
Psychologist Robert Emmons, who has spent years researching gratitude, explains that we tend to get used to good things in our lives.
Over time, we stop noticing them.
I think that's what happened to me today.
A comfortable bed.
A toilet.
Access to good dental care.
These aren't things I normally think about when I'm reflecting on what I'm grateful for.
But today, each of them meant something to me.
Of course, there's plenty I still want to improve in my life. Things I want to achieve, problems to solve, and plans to work on.
But I don't want to be so focused on what's missing that I forget to appreciate what I already have.
I'm tired today, and I still have things to do.
But I'm also grateful.
And that's what I wanted to share with you today.
See you in the next one!
