Day 28, 29 and 30: My Career Mistakes, 4 Newsletters on Personal Development and Newsletter Writing and My Reflections on Writing Daily for 30 days

Catching up!

πŸŽ‰ Greetings, everyone!

πŸ“† Today marks the grand finale of Ship30for30. πŸš€ From the moment I started publishing daily on July 13, with just a couple of missed steps along the way, this journey has been nothing short of exhilarating. 🌟

πŸ’ͺ Today, not only will I make up for those missed beats, but I'll also pour out my reflections on reaching this remarkable 30th day. πŸ“ But here's the thing: this moment isn't the crescendo; it's the ignition of something new and exciting. πŸ”₯

I'd like to extend heartfelt gratitude to my wife and two daughters, as well as to my fellow readers and connections, for standing by me throughout this transformative journey. Your support has been my driving force. πŸ™Œ

Day 28: 3 Mistakes I Made Early In My Careerβ€”And What I Would Have Done Differently

I have been working in Humanitarian Sector for almost 7 years.

And in that time, I've gotten to do a lot of cool things:

  • Worked in different organizations.

  • Worked with colleagues from different countries and gained international experience.

  • Deployed to other countries for emergencies.

There isn't much I would change about my journey.

But if I could go back, here are a few of the mistakes I made early onβ€”and what I would have done differently:

  1. Not able to determine my exact focus area: Initially, my career lacked a clear specialization. I spent years in MEAL and later shifted to Partnerships and Safeguarding, but without focused expertise. This divided my efforts and hindered my excellence. In hindsight, I'd have introspected earlier to pinpoint my passion and strengths, enabling me to specialize and contribute more effectively.

  2. Inadequate Communication During Pressure Situations: Early on, I struggled with clear communication in high-stress scenarios. This led to misunderstandings and delays in emergency responses. Looking back, I see the need for better communication skills and concise messaging to enhance collaboration and mission success.

  3. Trying to Please Everyone, Not Saying No: Initially, I aimed to help everyone and avoided declining tasks. This caused overcommitment and diluted my effectiveness. If I could redo it, I'd set boundaries and prioritize tasks aligned with my expertise, delivering better quality work, fostering relationships, and preventing burnout.
