Intro

Hey friend,

I hope you are doing well.

I was not very active in my newsletter and video content creation in Quarter 2 of 2024.

There are two main reasons: We were having some visa issues regarding our relocation to Germany, we went back to Turkey, and I had to come to Germany, so I was away from my wife and kids for a few months.

During this time, I focused my free time and energy on staying connected with my family and resolving these issues. Thankfully, we resolved the visa situation last month, and now I'm searching for a new apartment in Germany. I hope to find one soon so we can settle down together as quickly as possible.

If you want to hear more about what I have learned, I have written this atomic essay on our experience of moving abroad.

The second reason is that I was a bit busy with coursework from my master's program and other projects. In the meantime, I went to an Effective Altruism Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, at the end of April, and I went to Rome, Italy, with my classmates for an International Humanitarian Law conference.

In the last month, throughout May, I have been trying to publish one atomic essay every day as part of the Ship30for30 challenge. You can find all my essays here on Typeshare, and for more daily content, follow me on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Also, with Quarter 3, I’m back with the newsletter and video content creation. You can follow me on social media: selimuysal.link.

Books

In recent weeks, I've managed to read several books, though not as many as I would have liked. For Q3, I'm committed to dedicating more time to reading.

I've also made it a priority to spend time reading the Qur’an, our holy book. Reading has been a source of strength for me during these challenging times, including personal struggles and the troubling events in Gaza and other parts of the world. I've shared some reflections in an atomic essay available on LinkedIn and Twitter

God describes the Israelis as arrogant in a particular passage in Surah Al-Isra. This notion puzzled me for a long time, but recent events have shed light on these words, especially seeing ordinary individuals' obstructions of humanitarian aid trucks.

This has brought a new understanding to me, reinforcing the significance of the final day of judgment in light of the world's evident injustices and lack of legal protections for war crimes. Without the belief in an afterlife, contemplating the suffering of innocent children and people would be overwhelmingly difficult, I think.

Additionally, I've been reading Tony Robbins’ "Awaken the Giant Within" and have begun Cal Newport's "Slow Productivity." I'll try to share more about them in the next issue of the newsletter.

Also, yesterday, I shared my top 3 newsletters about reading and books; if you are interested, you can find them here.

Running & Exercise

In Q2, my travels and hectic schedule made maintaining a consistent exercise routine challenging. Despite this, I made a concerted effort to reach at least 10,000 steps daily.

While my overall fitness levels didn't significantly improve, I maintained some regularity with a few exercises and visited the gym three to four times per week. Both physically and psychologically, this routine was a great support, and I'm truly grateful that I was able to keep it up.

Business

On the business front, there have been several exciting developments this quarter. I have successfully completed three educational email course projects and am nearing completion on a fourth. Looking ahead to the next quarter, my focus will shift towards exploring new opportunities and dedicating more time to my personal projects.

If you're considering starting your own newsletter or educational email course, feel free to hit reply and send me a quick email—I’d love to help.

Additionally, I've recently taken on a role as a consultant for a humanitarian project. Over the next few months, I'll be conducting training sessions in Turkey. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.

I’m coming to Turkey this Thursday, June 6; if you are in İstanbul around that time, I’d be glad to meet. Also, I’m open for short online calls regarding newsletters and the humanitarian sector. Reply to this email for more information.
